Packers coaches didn't shy away from Seahawks film

When seasons fall apart in the most depressive, devastating fashion, some coaches shred the film, believing that reliving the experience isn't worth the cost of possibly being captured forever in that moment of despair.

Not Mike McCarthy and the Green Bay Packers, who lost the NFC Championship Game to the Seattle Seahawks in such a mystifying fashion that it still seems impossible even when you watch a replay and know what's coming. McCarthy had his staff comb through the film to figure out how to correct the gaffes.

"That's part of your scheme evaluation," McCarthy said last week, per ESPN Wisconsin's Jason Wilde. "We have done it as a staff. We cut up every situation, so we've seen those plays from that game a number of times from our scheme evaluation."

Some of those evaluations have led to dismissals. Special teams coordinator Shawn Slocum was fired, and Brandon Bostick, Brad Jones and A.J. Hawk all were let go after being involved in botched plays.

Surely, McCarthy didn't have to strap his staff down A Clockwork Orange-style to get them to analyze the horror-show as the Packers wasted a 19-7 lead with under five minutes to play. But they worked through the pain and have come out the other side.

"Personally, I've gone back and watched the TV copies a few weeks back, just one more time," McCarthy said. "(But) as a coaching staff, we've moved past that. We're starting to build our installations for 2015."
