The New York Giants failed to make the playoffs in 2012. However, defensive end Osi Umenyiora locked up the biggest prize of his offseason when he successfully proposed to his girlfriend, former Miss Universe Leila Lopes, the New York Post reported.
Umenyiora tweeted a picture of the happy couple on a trip to Italy last month, describing Lopes as "My beautiful fiancée Leila."
Lopes was crowned Miss Universe in 2011. She previously was voted Miss Angola in 2010. She turns 27 next week.
The Post reported that Umenyiora recently popped the question in Atlanta and added that the couple plans to wed sometime in 2014.
Umenyiora has been with the Giants for all 10 of his NFL seasons, winning two Super Bowls and recording 75 sacks during that time. His playing time was reduced last season, when he started just four games and posted six sacks, his lowest total since 2006.
Umenyiora is due to become an unrestricted free agent next month.
