Engram was hurt during the Rebels' 27-24 home upset of LSU Saturday.

He had caught 20 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns this season, including two grabs against the Tigers prior to the injury. Only 6-foot-3, 217 pounds, small for the position, Engram was being used as a flex tight end, operating from a slot position where he could beat linebackers in coverage with wide receiver-like athleticism. The role has become more common in the NFL as well, with players such as New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham.
Engram's left ankle injury was initially reported as a high ankle sprain. Despite missing half the season, it would be no surprise if Engram is named to the SEC All-Freshman team at season's end.
