On Monday morning, news came out that Oregon left tackle Tyler Johnstone re-tore his ACL and would miss the 2014 season.
On Monday evening, the same bad news came to a program further east as Ohio State learned true freshman linebacker Kyle Berger also would miss the upcoming season after tearing his ACL for the second time in less than a year.
Ohio State did not release a statement on the injury but is scheduled to practice on Tuesday, with head coach Urban Meyer likely addressing the media afterward.
Berger was likely to be brought along slowly coming off rehab for his first ACL tear, but nevertheless the loss hurts the Buckeyes' depth at the middle linebacker position. Meyer and his staff have high expectations for all four of their class of 2014 linebacker signees and it appeared that most of them had an opportunity to contribute this season.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Berger was considered a four-star recruit out of the Cleveland area and had previously torn his ACL in a scrimmage right before his senior season.
Based on his tweet, at least Berger seems to be in high spirits about the long road back to the field. Either way, it's tough news for a young player who was already coming off the exact same injury.
