Northwestern CB Daniel Jones lost for season with knee injury

Northwestern has lost starting cornerback Daniel Jones for the season with a torn ACL, coach Pat Fitzgerald said.

Jones, a junior, was injured in the first half of the Wildcats' victory over California.

Things we learned

From Johnny Manziel's controversial return to Washington's statement win, here are the 41 things we learned from the first weekend of college football play. **More ...**

Jones (5-feet-11, 185 pounds) was part of a Northwestern secondary that returned three starters. He almost certainly will be replaced in the starting lineup by redshirt freshman Dwight White (5-10, 185), who had seven tackles against Cal.

Fitzgerald also said starting quarterback Kain Colter and starting tailback Venric Mark might play Saturday against visiting Syracuse. Mark has a lower-extremity injury, while Colter is believed to have suffered a concussion early against Cal. Fitzgerald said both are "day-to-day."

Backup tailback Treyvon Green rushed for 129 yards and two TDs in place of Mark in the opener. Trevor Siemian threw for 276 yards and a score after coming on for Colter. Siemian made one start and played extensively last season behind Colter; he is considered the better passer of the two.
