North Carolina scores record 80 points in 55-minute game

North Carolina set a school record for points Saturday in an 80-20 victory over Old Dominion despite the fourth quarter being shortened from 15 minutes to 10. UNC did not score in the fourth quarter.

UNC scored 11 touchdowns, and just two of the Tar Heels' touchdown drives came on possessions longer than 1 minute, 44 seconds. Both coaches agreed the fourth quarter would be shortened. The point total was the second highest in ACC history (Clemson scored 82 against Wake Forest in 1981).

Tar Heels quarterback Marquise Williams threw five first-half TD passes. Tailback T.J. Logan scored four TDs, including a 99-yard kickoff return. And wide receiver Ryan Switzer had three TDs, including a 64-yard punt return. The punt return for a TD was his fourth in three games and tied the ACC single-season record.

Williams was 20 of 27 for 409 yards and rushed for 60 more, helping UNC gain a school-record 721 yards.

The Tar Heels (6-5) became bowl-eligible with their fifth consecutive victory, their longest streak since 2001. ODU (8-4) is in a transition season; the Monarchs are leaving the FCS ranks and will be a full-fledged FBS member next season.

ODU led 10-7 with 5:43 left in the first quarter.
