No charges filed against Aldon Smith for LAX incident

No charges will be filed against San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith in the alleged bomb threat incident at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in April, the Los Angeles City Attorney announced Tuesday.

Smith was booked on April 13 for false reporting of a bomb threat at LAX. Two weeks later the case was referred to the city attorney's office by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for misdemeanor consideration.

In lieu of charges, the city attorney set a hearing to address the matter.

Smith still faces a sentence hearing on July 25 in Santa Clara County Superior Court after pleading no contest in May to felony weapons charges, in addition to two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Smith could face possible jail time for the weapons charge. A potentially long NFL suspension also looms following the legal resolution.
