Brandon Aiyuk's 2025 season has ended before it even began.
The San Francisco 49ers placed Aiyuk on the reserve/left squad list on Saturday, which officially ends his season, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.
The news was made official on the league's transaction wire that came out shortly after.
Aiyuk, who's been on the physically unable to perform list all year due to a torn ACL he suffered in 2024, might have played his last down for San Francisco considering it was reported three weeks ago that the club voided the 2026 guaranteed money in his contract.
That preemptive measure paves the way for a potential separation between the two parties, just a year and a half removed from them agreeing to a four-year, $120 million extension ahead of the 2024 season.
Aiyuk had his best season in 2023, posting a career-high 1,342 yards with seven touchdowns on 75 receptions to earn second-team All-Pro honors. A first-round pick in 2020, Aiyuk also led the team in receptions and yards during the 2022 campaign.
It's been a contentious relationship ever since Aiyuk broke out, with a holdout and trade request leading up to his '24 extension and the club being open to trading the wideout this past March despite the long-term deal.
Barring a reconciliation between the 27-year-old and the 49ers this offseason, Aiyuk's placement on the reserve/left squad list is nearing the final chapter of a dramatic five-year run in San Francisco.
