NFL, Sean Payton haven't spoken about reinstatement

No one from the NFL office has communicated with suspended New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton about reinstatement, league spokesman Greg Aiello told The Times-Picayune on Thursday.

It was reported Wednesday that Payton and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had started talks about reinstatement.

"I don't want to say he could be (reinstated) because, again, we are in the early stages," Goodell said after the December Special League Meeting in Dallas. "We are starting to talk about it."

Aiello said there have been only internal discussions on the topic, but none have included Payton.

The NFL initially said Payton could apply for reinstatement from his season-long suspension on Feb. 4.
