NFL, referees meet to discuss deal; no resolution imminent

The NFL and NFL Referees Association met Sunday, but no resolution to the labor dispute between the sides is imminent, according to a source briefed on the discussions.

The NFLRA has requested that owners become more involved in negotiations, according to a refereeing source. The source said the union offered concessions on pension and compensation, and both were rejected.

The league and NFLRA also met last week for two days, but the negotiations remained far apart. The main hang-up continues to be over the retirement plan.

The NFL locked out the officials in June after their contract expired. The league has been using replacement officials, and through three weeks of the regular season, there has been criticism over the way some games have been handled.
