NFL fantasy football: Week 7 Players of the Week

It's certainly a quarterback league, which was borne out with Week 7's Fantasy Players of the Week. But it was a season-long fantasy disappointment, who finally kicked things into gear and ran to the top of this week's list.

Points based on standard scoring in NFL.com fantasy football leagues

5. Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers (25.68 fantasy points)

Fresh off a dazzling performance against the Houston Texans in Week 6, Rodgers was held to "only" 342 yards and three touchdowns in a 30-20 win over the St. Louis Rams. After a slow start to the season, Rodgers has now scored 25-plus points in each of his last three contests. Next week, the Packers host the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are in the middle of the pack when it comes to stopping opposing fantasy QBs.

4. Vincent Jackson, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (27.60 fantasy points)

It's been a good run recently for Jackson, scoring 16 or more fantasy points in three of his previous four games. Sunday, he outdid himself by posting a career-high 216 receiving yards and a touchdown in a 35-28 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Those numbers might have been even better had Jackson not run out of gas on a 95-yard catch and run. Next week, Jackson and the Bucs will be challenged by the Minnesota Vikings, who have not been kind to fantasy receivers this season.

3. Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans Saints (29.18 fantasy points)

It probably surprises no one that Brees is on this list for yet another week. The future Hall of Famer lit up the Bucs for 377 yards and four touchdown passes -- with all four scores coming in the first half! Brees has now scored 28 points or better in three straight games. Week 8 brings a trip to Denver to meet the Broncos, who have been tough on fantasy quarterbacks. But when you're Drew Brees, you probably don't worry about that so much.

2. Josh Freeman, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (29.70 fantasy points)

This game turned out to be a fantasy gold mine. Freeman took full advantage of a good matchup, throwing for a career-high 420 yards with three touchdown passes. The former Kansas State standout is a matchup-based start and has excelled in the past two weeks, scoring a combined 53.32 fantasy points. Next week's contest against the Minnesota Vikings doesn't look quite as promising.

1. Chris Johnson, RB, Tennessee Titans (31.80 fantasy points)

Welcome back, Chris Johnson! The man who has been arguably this season's biggest fantasy disappointment showed signs of his previous form, torching the woebegone Bills defense for 195 yards and two touchdowns in Tennessee's 35-34 win over Buffalo. His numbers could have been even bigger, were it not for Jamie Harper scoring on a pair of short runs. Nonetheless, Johnson did more than enough to earn top #KABOOM honors this week. The gravy train could continue into Week 8 with a matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
