New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft disclosed on Monday that he has pre-cancerous melanoma.

Kraft had three visible spots on his face as he spoke to reporters at the NFL Annual Meeting in Phoenix about losing wide receiver Wes Welker.

Kraft, 71, said he is treating the condition with a medical cream.

"It was just small spots and you couldn't see them," he said, according to ESPN. "Hopefully it makes it go away."

He said he chose not to conceal his lesions to encourage proper protection from the sun, the Boston Globe reported.
