Michael Vick: I'll be ready for Eagles' season opener

As Nick Foles Fever bubbles up in the streets of Philadelphia, Eagles starting quarterback Michael Vick confirmed Sunday that he would be ready for the season opener against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 9.

Instant Debate: Philly's biggest fear

Can the Eagles make the playoffs if Michael Vick isn't healthy for the entire season? Our analysts share their thoughts. **More ...**

Vick practiced Sunday and told Jeff Skversky of WPVI-TV there's "no doubt" in his mind he will play Week 1 after bruising his ribs in Philly's win over the New England Patriots on Monday night. Vick also told the station his left throwing thumb, injured in the team's preseason opener, has healed.

Vick watched from afar as Foles, the rookie quarterback, guided the Eagles to an empathic 27-10 win over the Browns in Friday's game. Foles went 12-for-19 passing for 146 yards and two touchdowns. He didn't look like a rookie, but more like a strong-armed, savvy leader.

There's no debate who Andy Reid views as his quarterback, but Foles has a chance to leapfrog Mike Kafka for the No. 2 job and he gives the Eagles assurance in the face of Vick's inability to stay on the field. Vick hasn't played a full 16 games since 2006 and there is dwindling confidence that he can endure a full slate of games.
