Michael Strahan: Osi Umenyiora was robbed by Giants

Just when you thought you'd never have to hear about Osi Umenyiora's contract ever again -- here we are, talking about Osi Umenyiora's contract.

Wyche: Summer subplots

We've reached the dog days of summer, but Steve Wyche has five tantalizing storylines to follow into training camp. **More ...**

Former New York Giants star Michael Strahan believes Umenyiora allowed the team to walk all over him when he signed a one-year, $6 million deal earlier this month.

"To be honest with you, it's flat-out robbery," Strahan told the New York Post at a recent charity golf event.

"If it were me, I would have sat at home and I wouldn't have played. That's just me. I've threatened to do that in my time and I ended up getting what I wanted. Osi's a different mind-set than me. I'm probably a little more, 'I don't care what people think.' "

There's not much Umenyiora can do about it. Along with a $2 million signing bonus, the contract does offer another $500,000 in sack-based incentives, but Umenyiora isn't guaranteed a future with the team after this season.

It's easy for Strahan, in the middle of a golf game, to tell the world how his friend and former teammate should have handled the Giants' front office. When Strahan played, he was a high priority for the team when contracts were handed out. Umenyiora's playing time has been reduced by the presence of Justin Tuck and rising star Jason Pierre-Paul. In the end, Strahan played 15 seasons in New York; we'd be surprised if Osi makes it past his ninth.
