ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Green Bay Packers sound sold on keeping Matt Flynn around to back up Aaron Rodgers.
Coach Mike McCarthy told reporters Tuesday at the NFL Annual Meeting that the team wants to re-sign Flynn, according to Mike Vandermause of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
McCarthy said he felt "great respect and admiration" for the 28-year-old journeyman who played in five games for the Packers after being released by both the Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills during a rocky sixth season in the NFL.
Flynn finished 2-2-1 in place of the injured Rodgers, exhibiting streaky play from wire to wire. The Packers are fond of Flynn because he knows McCarthy's offense well after a previous stint with the team from 2008-11.
The coach also told reporters he'd like to keep three passers on the 53-man roster come September, presumably good news for under-contract Scott Tolzien.
