Martellus Bennett lets Packers fans pick number

One of the best things about having Martellus Bennett on your favorite team -- well, besides the fact that he is a good and productive football man -- is that for the price of his contract terms you receive not just the player, but the entire Martellus Bennett Experience.

Case in point: Bennett, who turned 30 on Friday, decided that he'd let Packers fans decide what number he would wear in Green Bay.

Bennett wore No. 88 in his one season with the Patriots, and has worn 80, 83 and 85 in prior stops during a winding NFL career. Packers wide receiver/running back Ty Montgomery currently has a grip on 88 in Green Bay, and Bennett reserved the right to make an "executive decision" if there exists a path back to that number. (This typically involves under-the-table monetary considerations.)

One last thought: The NFL has rules about what numbers you can wear based on your position. For instance, tight ends can only choose between 80-89 (wide receivers also pick from this group, but also have access to 10-19). I don't like this. A creative dude like Marty Bennett should not be limited in such a manner.
