Louisville coach Charlie Strong said today in a weekly news conference that tailback Michael Dyer, a transfer who formerly played at Auburn, will sign a behavioral contract and that the coaching staff will have a zero-tolerance policy toward Dyer.
Dyer twice rushed for 1,000 yards at Auburn, but had numerous off-field issues with the Tigers. He transferred to Arkansas State after the 2011 season but eventually was dismissed by that staff and spent last fall and this past spring earning an associate's degree at Arkansas Baptist College.
Strong said he can't change Dyer's past "but I hope to build on his future."
Strong said he met with athletic director Tom Jurich about adding Dyer as a transfer student and that Jurich met with Dyer before signing off on his addition.
Strong said he also spoke with new Auburn coach Gus Malzahn about Dyer and got positive feedback. Malzahn was Auburn's offensive coordinator when Dyer played there, but he also was the head coach at Arkansas State when Dyer was dismissed from that school.
In 2010, Dyer rushed for a school freshman-record 1,093 yards and five TDs, and starred in the BCS national championship game. In 2011, he ran for 1,242 yards and 10 TDs.
