Lions rule out Best for Falcons' game because of concussion

DETROIT -- Detroit running back Jahvid Best has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Atlanta because of a concussion.

The Lions also put running back Jerome Harrison on the reserve/non-football illness list after he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He was reportedly undergoing surgery on Friday.

Coach Jim Schwartz said on Monday that Best began experiencing "concussion-like symptoms" after Sunday's 25-19 loss to San Francisco. He ran for 37 yards on 12 carries against the 49ers.

Best also missed time during the preseason because of a concussion.

Best, in his second year out of California, missed four games in college after a fall knocked him out and sent him to the hospital with a concussion and sore back.

The Lions have also signed running back Eldra Buckley. Linebacker Justin Durant, also recovering from a concussion, says he expects to play Sunday.
