Johnny Manziel drafted by Padres in 28th round

Say hello to Johnny Baseball.

The San Diego Padres on Saturday used their 28th-round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft to grab Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel:

In what amounts to an overt PR stunt, the Padres claim to envision Manziel at shortstop.

That's not likely to fly with the Browns, who used the No. 22 overall pick in last month's draft to land their quarterback of the future.

It's worth noting that Manziel has a history with the Padres after throwing out the first pitch at a San Diego tilt in 2013.

"Big thank you to the (Padres) and (team president & CEO Mike Dee) for selecting me in the MLB draft. What a great day!" tweeted Manziel.

Manziel now joins the ranks of Russell Wilson, Tom Brady, Deion Sanders, Bo Jackson and John Elway, among others, as NFL players snatched up in the MLB Draft.

Forget the fact that JFF hasn't played an inning of baseball since high school. The Padres have confirmed what we already knew about Manziel: Everybody wants a piece of the action.
