The Detroit Lions are optimistic about the health of Reggie Bush.
The running back suffered a knee injury late in the first half of Detroit's 25-21 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Bush attempted to return to the game to start the third quarter, but he lasted just two carries before sitting for good.
"The tests today were encouraging," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said Monday. "He's going to be sore, but he doesn't have anything that is going to be long term."
Does that mean Bush is dealing with a short-term issue? The Lions visit the Washington Redskinsnext Sunday.
"It's too hard to speculate on injuries," Schwartz said. "That's why I usually don't."
Bush's exit coincided with the Lions' offense grinding to a halt in Arizona. The unit was shut out in the second half, managing just four first downs.
Bush brings balance to the attack. Without him, it's the same one-dimensional outfit that stumbled one season ago.
