Jim Leonhard signs with the Cleveland Browns

Veteran safety Jim Leonhard will spend the final season of his playing career in Cleveland.

Leonhard tweeted Wednesday that he signed a contract with the Browns. This comes months after stating the 2014 season would be the curtain call for his 10-year career. The Browns later announced the signing.

Although Leonhard's range is limited at this stage of his career, he did manage a career-high four interceptions in seven starts with Buffalo last season.

The reunion with coach Mike Pettine comes as no surprise. Leonhard has played under Pettine with the Ravens, Jets and Bills.

As any reader of Nicholas Dawidoff's Collision Low Crossers knows, Leonhard is essentially a coach on the field with an extraordinarily high football IQ. He will help Browns defenders grasp the nuances of Pettine's scheme, while pushing free safety Tashaun Gipson for snaps.
