Jim Harbaugh not happy 49ers rookies 'out of shape'

San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh isn't a man known for mincing words. After watching his rookie receivers struggle to finish their first practice as a team, he let them have it.

"Guys were a little out of shape, but we'll get them going," Harbaugh said.

Reporters on the scene noted that first-round pick A.J. Jenkins especially struggled. Harbaugh was specifically asked about Jenkins.

"The group of receivers looked good today. Out of shape -- that's the bad news," Harbaugh said. "The good news is that it's a very talented group of those young receivers. You can tell that right away. The bad news is we've got to get them in shape. I don't know exactly what all these guys were doing for the last six months."

Jenkins has found his welcome-to-the-NFL moment. He was seen doubled over and having to kneel between snaps.

"When I got tired, I wasn't concentrating as much," Jenkins said, via Matt Maiocco of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. "I'll fix that this (next) practice."

It's safe to say Jenkins could use help before he tackles Jerry Rice's famed hill.

"Yeah, I need to get into shape, so I'll do it," Jenkins said. "I'm not going to challenge him; I'm going to try to do it with him."
