Jason Avant, Clay Harbor take snaps on Eagles' defense

Quick note out of Philadelphia, where coach Chip Kelly continues to play games with the Eagles' roster.

Geoff Mosher of Comcast SportsNet Philly reported Saturday that Kelly shifted two of his offensive weapons over to defense.

Wide receiver Jason Avant -- the team's fourth-leading receiver last season -- told Mosher he saw time at defensive back, while tight end Clay Harbor spent a day at outside linebacker.

It's only May, but it indicates Harbor might not be viewed as a fit at his natural position. Avant told Mosher he didn't read much into the switch, but Harbor was

We agree with Mosher: Positions switches across the line of scrimmage rarely are good news for a player. Still, Bill Belichick habitually uses players on both sides of the ball and judges that versatility as a plus.

We'll find out soon enough if Kelly feels the same way.
