Some players draw inspiration from their family; a few find strength in their teammates; many often look to scripture. But you rarely see a professional footballer perform at his best thanks to a clothing accessory. With a hoodie protruding from his jersey, one Green Bay Packer wide receiver started a web-wide frenzy and touched greatness.
Topping Week 11's Top 10 "Performance Moments of the Week" presented by Bridgestone is James Jones' toe-tapping touchdown.
Jones wasn't even on the Packers' roster in the preseason; the veteran wideout was wallowing away at Giants training camp before being released back into free agency. However, when Aaron Rodgers and his previous franchise swooped him up, the old receiver found the fountain of youth and a resurgent step.
However, midway through the season, Jones slowed down, and apparently looked to new inspiration in the form of a green sweatshirt. After wearing it in warmups and feeling comfortable, Jones sported the jumper for the Packers' game in Minnesota on Sunday. It wasn't a coincidence that he put up some of his best numbers on the season -- six catches, 109 yards and one spectacular touchdown.
Jones put an exclamation point on his performance with a pretty toe-drag grab in the end zone. On the first play of the fourth quarter and up six points, Aaron Rodgers rolled out to right to avoid the Vikings' pass rush and salt the game away. Jones followed his quarterback and ran toward the right edge of the end zone. Rodgers tossed a dart past the trailing Vikings cornerback and found Jones, who deftly stuck his right toe in the turf while dragging his left toe with him out of bounds. The grab secured the Packers' 30-13 win and moved them back into a tie with Minnesota atop the NFC North.
