Thirty-six-year-old free-agent linebackers usually don't have much of a market by this time in March. Even ones with otherworldly powers.
That was the case for James Harrison last year, who announced his retirement after a cold summer left him on the street without a team to call home.
"The opinions of my support team are split, but for me, my love for the man who both started, and made my career what it is, is undeniable," Harrison wrote on Instagram. "There are no words that I can find that would do justice for everything Dick LeBeau has done for me & my career and nothing can compare to that!
Harrison ended his three-week retirement last season when the injury-ravaged Steelers came calling. The 2008 NFL Defensive Player of the Year -- who one day will have a curious case for the Hall of Fame -- had a bounce-back campaign in the Steel City, totaling 5.5 sacks and 45 tackles over 11 games.
The Steelers could use pash-rushing help after being blindsided by the news of Jason Worilds' retirement last week before getting a chance to re-sign him. Harrison could also alleviate coach Mike Tomlin's transition of the defense LeBeau no longer oversees by mentoring back-to-back first-round selections in linebackers Ryan Shazier and Jarvis Jones.
Harrison's loyalty to LeBeau, though, could be the Titans' trump card.
The onetime undrafted practice squad player who's been cut four different times must feel great to have options five weeks away from turning 37.
