The NFL's newest dual-threat player has officially inked his rookie deal.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed No. 2 overall pick Travis Hunter to his rookie contract, the team announced Sunday. It is a four-year, $46,649,114 deal with a $30,566,628 signing bonus, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, with the standard fifth-year option for first-round picks.
The Jaguars traded up to pick Hunter second overall in the 2025 NFL Draft in April, sending the Browns a haul of picks in order to ensure they would not miss out on the dynamic wide receiver/cornerback hybrid.
It was a big move for Jacksonville’s new regime under first-year GM James Gladstone, with Gladstone describing Hunter on draft night as a player with “the capacity to alter the trajectory of the sport itself.”
Hunter becomes the 30th of the first round picks from this year's draft to officially sign, with just the Bengals' Shemar Stewart and the Broncos' Jahdae Barron left to ink their deals.
Hunter took the football world by storm while at Colorado with his ability to play full time at both wide receiver and cornerback, recording an impressive 111.5 snaps per game in his final season with the Buffaloes and coming away as the only FBS player since 2000 with 10-plus TD catches and five-plus interceptions in a career. That two-way dominance led to Hunter winning the Heisman Trophy at the conclusion of the 2024 college season.
So far in offseason workouts Hunter has impressed fans eagerly awaiting his debut, even as the Jaguars slowly ease him into the NFL workload. They started out by only having him practice on one side of the ball each day during voluntary OTAs, working up to practicing on both sides during minicamp practices. Head coach Liam Coen said last week he anticipates more movement back and forth as preparations continue to ramp up.
Now with his first NFL contract officially signed, Hunter’s attention can fully turn to preparing to contribute on both sides of the ball in the upcoming season, with rookies set to report to training camp in just under one month.
