Injury updates: Ole Miss' Laquon Treadwell has surgery

Mississippi wide receiver Laquon Treadwell had surgery Sunday on a fractured tibia and dislocated left ankle, an injury suffered near the end of the Rebels' loss Saturday to Auburn.

His loss means the Rebels will finish out the season with their best skill-position player on the sideline; Treadwell, a sophomore, finishes the season with 48 catches for 632 yards and five touchdowns.

He posted on Instagram on Sunday morning.

Treadwell (6-foot-2, 229 pounds), one of the most physically impressive wide receivers in the nation, should be back for spring practice, which will be important because the Rebels will be breaking in a new quarterback.

In the short term, Cody Core and Vince Sanders seem likely to share the go-to receiver role for quarterback Bo Wallace.

In other injury news:

» The next update on Nebraska TB Ameer Abdullah is expected Tuesday, when Huskers coach Bo Pelini is on the Big Ten coaches' teleconference. Abdullah left Saturday's win over Purdue with what Pelini called a "mild" knee sprain. The Huskers are off this weekend and don't play against until Nov. 15, when they face Wisconsin in a Big Ten West showdown. Pelini told reporters after the Purdue game he was optimistic Abdullah -- Nebraska's best offensive player -- would be ready for the Badgers.

» USC coach Steve Sarkisian told reporters Sunday that Trojans S/OLB Su'a Cravens suffered no structural damage to his knee when he was injured during the Trojans' rout of Washington State on Saturday night. "How quickly he can come back from this, we'll see," Sarkisian said. One positive: USC doesn't play again until Nov. 13, when it faces California. Cravens' versatility is a huge plus for USC, and he was playing nickelback when he was injured against the pass-happy Cougars.

» Notre Dame LB Joe Schmidt, a former walk-on who is the Irish's leading tackler, will miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken left ankle in Saturday night's win over Navy. True freshman Nyles Morgan will replace Schmidt in the starting lineup. Morgan has vastly more physical ability than Schmidt, but his lack of experience could hurt next weekend, when the Irish play at Arizona State in a battle of one-loss teams.

» Sterling Shepard, Oklahoma's leading receiver, suffered a strained groin in Saturday's rout of Iowa State, and he should be available this weekend for the Sooners' game with Baylor. Shepard leads the Big 12 in receiving yards per game at 119.6.

» Oregon's offensive line took another hit Saturday during the Ducks' rout of Stanford. RT Matt Pierson, starting only because of injuries to two other tackles, suffered a knee injury and seems likely to miss at least two weeks, The Oregonian reported. True freshman Tyrell Crosby would be his replacement.

» Florida will be without two starters for this weekend's game with Vanderbilt: Senior G Trenton Brown -- whose size (6-foot-8, 360 pounds) and run-blocking ability make him a potential third-day pick -- has a bone bruise on his knee and sophomore S Keanu Neal has a high ankle sprain. Both were injured in the first quarter of the Gators' upset of Georgia. Neal leads Florida with three interceptions and is third on the team in tackles. Junior Tyler Moore will replace Brown, while junior Marcus Maye likely will replace Neal. Coach Will Muschamp said Monday that the Gators won't use as many nickel packages without Neal.

» Clemson true freshman QB Deshaun Watson - - who has missed the past two games with a broken bone in his hand - - has been upgraded from out to doubtful for Thursday night's game against Wake Forest, The Charleston (S.C.) Post & Courier reported. He began throwing again last week at practice.

» Akron QB Kyle Pohl, a strong-armed junior who has missed the past two games with a concussion, is expected to play Tuesday night against Bowling Green. The Zips are 0-2 without Pohl, and backup QB Thomas Woodson threw six interceptions in the two losses.
