Green Bay Packers lose Cedric Benson (foot) for eight weeks

Green Bay Packers running back Cedric Benson sustained a Lisfranc injury to his left foot during Sunday's 30-27 loss to the Indianapolis Colts and will be out approximately eight weeks, a source familiar with the player's diagnosis confirmed.

If it's determined that Benson needs surgery, the Packers' leading rusher could be out for the season.

ESPN first reported the story.

Benson was replaced in Sunday's game by Alex Green, who could take over as the starter. However, the Packers also could re-gain the services of last season's starter, James Starks, who hasn't played this season because of a turf toe injury.

Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub and Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden sustained Lisfranc injuries last year and required surgery that ended their seasons. Both returned this season and have played well.
