Turns out TCU head coach Gary Patterson didn't say what everyone thinks he said about the reinstatement of LSU running back Jeremy Hill.
Patterson sent a full transcript of his remarks to Tigers head coach Les Miles to quell any uproar about the perceived criticism, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
"I know what I said. I didn't mention Jeremy Hill. I didn't mention Les Miles," Patterson said Thursday. "It was more about (TCU defensive end) Devonte Fields. If they want to make something up so they can get all fired up ... I can get the same thing when I go home. Everyone can stand in line."
A Freshman All-American last season, Fields will miss the Horned Frogs' first two games, including the highly anticipated season-opener against LSU at AT&T Stadium, as he serves a suspension for an unspecified violation of team rules.
Hill had been indefinitely suspended from the LSU football program following his arrest in April after punching a man outside a Baton Rouge bar, but was recently reinstated through a vote of teammates, a decision that Miles was roundly criticized for. Hill pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge last month while already on probation, but will not serve any jail time. Miles has said a suspension for Hill is still possible.
