Three years ago, Ed Reed missed the first seven weeks of the season while recovering from reconstructive hip surgery to replace a torn labrum and take 6 or 7 inches from his iliotibial band.
Less than two months after signing with the Houston Texans, Reed needs more work on the hip.
Reed underwent arthroscopic surgery last week to repair a small labral tear in his hip, the Houston Chronicle reported Friday. The procedure is minor enough that the 34-year-old is expected to be ready for training camp.
Considering Reed's history, that timetable seems a bit on the optimistic side. We wonder if the injury also played a role in the Baltimore Ravens' willingness to let Reed walk rather than matching the Texans' offer.
If there's a silver lining to the surgery, it's that promising second-rounder D.J. Swearinger will pick up key reps with the starters throughout the offseason program.
