Doug Martin: Personal issues 'definitely behind me'

Buccaneers running back Doug Martin is ready to turn the page.

While he's still suspended for violating the league's policy on substances of abuse, Martin is back at offseason training activities. On Thursday, he met with reporters for the first time in months.

"I was there long enough," Martin said of his stay in a rehabilitation clinic, via JoeBucsFan.com. "I was there long enough, and I was there to the point I'm strong now, mentally strong and physically strong."

He added that the situation is "definitely behind me."

Martin's potential return to form is one of the reasons why so many are high on the Buccaneers this year. Two seasons removed from a 288-carry, 1,402-yard campaign, there is still a belief that the on-again, off-again power back can carry the load in this offense.

But behind him, the unproven mix of contributors and swing backs like Charles Sims, Jacquizz Rodgers and rookie fifth-round pick Jeremy McNichols await their opportunities during the remaining time on Martin's suspension. Will they leave any room in the backfield when Martin returns?
