Dez Bryant respects Lions receiver Calvin Johnson, but that doesn't mean Bryant is going to bow to Megatron when the two square off Sunday in Detroit.
The Dallas Cowboys receiver said Johnson is "the best at what he does," during a Monday radio interview on KESN-FM, but he believes he can match Megatron, skill for skill and play for play.
"I believe I can do whatever he can do," Bryant said, per ESPN Dallas. "I think it's just a pride thing. When it comes to football, just being on the field, it's a mindset and having a mentality. I honestly believe when I'm there, I'll be feeling like there's nothing I can't do. Whatever the coaches ask me to do, I'm going to do it."
Through the first 50 games of their careers, Bryant has more receptions (242 to 217) and yards (3,440 to 3,362) than Johnson. Of course, it almost was exactly after those first 50 games that Johnson transformed into Megatron and became the best wide receiver in the NFL.
Bryant will have to continue to show the progress and consistency he's displayed since the latter half of last season in order to match -- and ultimately surpass -- Johnson.
Last week, Lions fans watched Johnson and Cincinnati Bengals receiver A.J. Green put on a show. We're all in for a treat this weekend if the Bryant-Johnson faceoff can surpass that performance.
