Denard Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars reach contract

The Jacksonville Jaguars have their "Offensive Weapon" under contract.

Fifth-round draft pick Denard Robinson signed his rookie deal Tuesday, the team announced. Listed as an "OW" on the team's official roster, Robinson has practiced with the running backs, but he should see time this season as a receiver, quarterback, fullback and kick returner.

"It's a great feeling to sign my first NFL contract," Robinson, the former Michigan signal-caller, said in a statement released by the Jaguars. "It's something I've been waiting my whole life for, and I'm ready to get to camp later this month and get back to work. I was able to get a feel for the NFL game during the offseason, and I look forward to getting the pads on and just keep improving with each practice."

The Jaguars reportedly have some "very interesting offensive wrinkles" centered around both Robinson and fourth-round pick Ace Sanders. Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com tweeted Tuesday that Robinson will emerge as the best player in the draft, a bold statement considering that Robinson probably is looking at a ceiling of 10 to 15 snaps per game.

UPDATE: According to the NFL's rookie slotting system, Robinson receives a signing bonus around $210,000 and counts about $450,000 against the salary cap, The Associated Press reported.
