NEW YORK -- The New York Jets needed all of four days to find their replacement for Darrelle Revis.
The Jets selected Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner with the ninth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, adding a much-needed chess piece to Rex Ryan's defense.
Milliner likely was the Jets' backup plan after the St. Louis Ramstraded up to eighth to nab Tavon Austin, the dynamic West Virginia playmaker the Jets reportedly coveted.
Milliner was an All-American at Alabama, but questions arose after it was learned he'd undergone five different surgeries. He's currently recovering from shoulder surgery to repair a labrum tear. Alabama's team doctor told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport on Wednesday that Milliner will be ready for training camp.
Milliner likely will step directly in the starting lineup, just as Revis did as a rookie in 2007. It's a tough spot for Milliner, tasked with filling the shoes of one of the greatest players in the Jets' history.
UPDATE: The Jets then decided to double down on defense at No. 13 overall, taking Missouri defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson.
