Darrelle Revis to play in Bucs' third preseason game?

Robert Griffin IIIcouldn't convince his coaching staff to play him in the Washington Redskins' third preseason game. But it sounds like Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis has a much better shot of it.

Revis told the Tampa Bay Times on Tuesday it's a "possibility" he will be on the field against the Miami Dolphins a week from Saturday. Revis' optimism is in step with Bucs general manager Mark Dominik, who opened the door for the cornerback's early return.

"You don't want to push," Dominik told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio on Tuesday. "You want to stick with your plan. But we may want to get him on the field Week 3 of the preseason, get a few series in, get it over with, get it out of his head, so that Week 1 in New York he's ready to go."

Revis' recovery from surgery to repair a torn ACL has progressed without setback. He took part in 7-on-7 drills Monday. If the team has designs for a preseason cameo, a progression to 11-on-11 drills is imminent.

Whether or not Revis plays against the Dolphins, this is all good news for the Bucs, who clearly are confident the cornerback will be in the starting lineup Sept. 8 against his former team, the New York Jets.
