Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Friday that quarterback Tony Romo is "day to day" as he recovers from a broken rib and punctured lung but Romo sounds more like he expects to play in Monday night's NFC East showdown with the Redskins.
A CT scan of Romo's punctured lung revealed that the injury has healed, taking the quarterback one step closer to playing Monday, The Dallas Morning News reported Friday.
"If it's just about the pain side of it and everything, I think we'll be good to go," Romo said. "I'm obviously planning mentally to go out there, so we'll see."
Garrett said Romo "seemed a little more normal" walking around the Cowboys complex and participating in practice Friday. Garrett said Romo threw some passes Friday, something he refrained from doing a day earlier.
Garret said if Romo responds well, then he's likely to play.
"We're hoping he can do something here in the next two days, prior to Monday's game," Garrett said.
Backup quarterback Jon Kitna told The Associated Press on Thursday, "I fully expect him to play."
Garrett said wide receiver Dez Bryant, dealing with a quadriceps injury, has progressed but is also day to day. Bryant did not participate in practice Friday.
"I think he did more today than he has in the past," Garrett said of Bryant.
