Cowboys will gather for on-field work under Romo's leadership

Tony Romo is organizing Dallas Cowboys teammates for workouts that are expected to begin next month, tight end Jason Wittentold the *Fort Worth Star-Telegram*, demonstrating that the quarterback, who's coming off an injury that sidelined him for 10 games last season, really is the team's leader.

Thursday was Cowboys QB Tony Romo's birthday, but what do you get the guy who received a $100,000 boat from a previous girlfriend? We have some ideas. **More ...**

Romo's leadership abilities have been questioned, particularly after he suffered a season-ending broken clavicle during a Week 7 loss to the New York Giants and Jon Kitna took over. The Cowboys, who were 1-6 after the Oct. 25 loss, went 5-5 under Kitna but missed the playoffs.

"The season can't get here fast enough for us," Witten said Wednesday. "Coming off that losing season, we all learned a lot. With Tony, he's really being a leader and taking this opportunity to leave his stamp on our team. He learned a lot being injured that way and seeing us have the season we did."

Teams are prohibited from having contact with their players during the NFL lockout, so players with several teams have organized on-field sessions with teammates.
