Cowboys' Jones, Redskins' Allen argue against cap penalties

PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Washington Redskins general manager Bruce Allen made their arguments in the salary-cap case at a two-per-team owners session Monday at the NFL Annual Meeting, according to league sources.

Dallas lost $10 million and Washington $36 million as a result of what the management council deemed to be taking advantage of the uncapped 2010 season in order to gain a competitive edge. The teams filed a joint grievance on the matter Sunday.

The Cowboys and Redskins were dismissed from Monday's session after Jones and Allen spoke so the other 30 teams could discuss the legalities of the case and the arbitration  set to come over the matter.

The NFL issued a statement confirming that the arbitration between the league and the two teams will be heard by professor Stephen Burbank of the University of Pennsylvania. No date has been set for a hearing.
