The Dallas Cowboys will be without starting cornerback Terence Newman for Sunday night's season opener against the New York Jets, the team announced.
Newman missed practice all week with a groin injury after starting all 32 games for Dallas over the past two seasons. Newman has started 117 of 119 games for the Cowboys since being drafted No. 5 overall in the 2003 draft.
Cowboys rookie offensive tackle Tyron Smith was limited in practice Friday with a knee injury and is listed as questionable against New York with a knee injury.
Center Phil Costa (knee) and cornerback Mike Jenkins (neck/knee) are also questionable for the game. Receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) and running back Tashard Choice (knee) are probable.
The Jets announced that offensive lineman Rob Turner has been ruled out with an ankle injury.
New York posted a laundry list of probable players, all who practiced fully on Friday, including receivers Santonio Holmes (illness), Plaxico Burress (ankle) and Derrick Mason (knee); cornerback Darrelle Revis (hip); quarterback Mark Brunell (calf); fullback John Conner (ankle) and defensive lineman Kenrick Ellis (hamstring).
