The NFL continues to roll out the pre-holiday sanctions.
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver LaVon Brazill has been suspended for at least one year without pay for violating the NFL's Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse, reports NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.
After failing multiple drug tests, Brazill was tagged with a four-game ban to start the 2013 season. He acknowledged last summer that it was time to choose between "money or marijuana."
A sixth-round pick in the Colts' loaded 2012 draft class, Brazill was primarily limited to special teams before generating a couple ofbig plays in last season's playoffs.
Following the offseason additions of former Giants star Hakeem Nicks and hyper-athletic third-round pick Donte Moncrief, Brazill was expected to battle Da'Rick Rogers and Griff Whalen for the fifth receiver role.
Now that Nicks and Moncrief have joined a healthy Reggie Wayne, T.Y. Hilton, Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener, the Colts still have a much deeper receiving corps than they did when Whalen was Andrew Luck's second option during the postseason.
As long as Wayne, Nicks and Allen stay out of the trainers' room, Brazill's absence won't be a major factor in the AFC South race.
