Chargers RB Najee Harris suffers non-contact leg injury vs. Broncos

Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris suffered a non-contact leg injury during the first half of Sunday's 23-20 win over the Denver Broncos.

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters after the game that the preliminary diagnosis is that Harris suffered an Achilles injury.

At the start of a second-down play in the middle of the second quarter, Harris fell to the turf after pushing off his back left leg.

Harris was helped off the field and later carted into the locker room with what the Chargers initially announced as an ankle injury.

The potentially devastating injury comes after Harris had worked his way back into a prominent role in the Chargers' backfield after his offseason was derailed by an eye injury sustained in a Fourth of July fireworks accident.

The eye injury caused Harris to miss the entirety of training camp, however, he was able to make his Los Angeles debut in Week 1, though his role in the Chargers' season-opening win was limited.

Harris got more of an even split in the backfield with rookie running back Omarion Hampton in Week 2 and was off to an effective start on Sunday (six carries, 28 yards) prior to his injury.

Harris, 27, signed a one-year deal with the Chargers in March after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
