With Rob Chudzinski settling into his office with the Cleveland Browns, the Carolina Panthers are aggressively searching for his replacement at offensive coordinator.
NFL.com's Albert Breer reported Friday the team has requested permission to speak to Cincinnati Bengals assistant Hue Jackson about their open offensive coordinator job, per a source.
The New York Jets have also expressed interest in Jackson, who spent last season coaching the Cincinnati secondary. Jackson previously was the Oakland Raiders head coach for one season after serving as the team's offensive coordinator in 2010.
Another potential option? Former Browns coach Pat Shurmur, who The Charlotte Observer reported is a candidate for the job. Shurmur served as the offensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams for two seasons before being named the Browns' head coach in 2011.
One thing working in Shurmur's favor is a prior relationship with Panthers coach Ron Rivera. The two worked together for five seasons on Andy Reid's staff with the Philadelphia Eagles.
