Bucs reportedly hire ex-Colts QB coach Turner to tutor Freeman

Ron Turner, former quarterbacks coach of the Indianapolis Colts and brother of Chargers coach Norv Turner, is the new quarterbacks coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to FoxSports.com, which cited a source in reporting the story Sunday.

Turner, 58, was the Bears' offensive coordinator from 2005 to 2009.

Turner will join new Bucs head coach Greg Schiano and new offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan in tutoring fourth-year Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freeman, who struggled last season with 22 interceptions after throwing only six in 2010.

Also Sunday, the Tampa Bay Times reported that the Bucs are close to signing offensive lineman Jeremy Zuttah to a contract extension.

Zuttah, who played for new Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano at Rutgers, is valued for his versatility on the offensive line, though he played mostly left guard in 2011. The 2008 third-round draft pick is scheduled to become a free agent.
