Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller's absence might make things harder on the Buckeyes this season after the Heisman Trophy candidate sustained a season-ending shoulder injury, but it apparently will make things easier on fans who want tickets.
Just two days after the injury, OSU home-game and neutral-site ticket prices on the secondary market dropped 10 percent, according to lantern.com, which cited SeatGeek for its data. The average price for a ticket to the Buckeyes' season opener against Navy Saturday dipped from $109 to $93 within two days, a 15 percent decline.
StubHub indicated a decline in season-ticket prices, and reported a 10 percent drop in web traffic for its Ohio State ticketing page.
Not that Buckeyes fans will take much solace in a few extra dollars at the expense of losing a Heisman Trophy candidate, but the decline certainly speaks to the impact a single star player of Miller's stature can have on fan interest. If backup J.T. Barrett is able to navigate the Buckeyes into late-season contention for the Big Ten Championship, and perhaps a spot in the inaugural four-team College Football Playoff, you can bet ticket prices will shoot right back up.
For now, however, Miller's absence is clearly a loss for ticket brokers.
