Houston's seesaw under center rages on.
Coach Bill O'Brien announced Friday that Brian Hoyer will start at quarterback when the Texans face the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6.
Hoyer relieved a down-and-out Ryan Mallett during Thursday night's 27-20 loss to the Colts, completing 24 of 31 passes for 312 yards with two touchdowns and a late interception that doomed the Texans.
Outside of his ill-fated pick, Hoyer operated efficiently, took chances downfield and played one of the better games of his up-and-down career as a starter.
"I think he went in there last night, I think he was 16 of 18 in the second half, you know, did a pretty decent job other than the last pass," O'Brien said of Hoyer. "Obviously that was one we all wish that we could have back -- he wishes he could have back."
We're bound to see Mallett again this season, but not right away after he crumbled hard against the Colts. While Mallett throws a powerful ball, he lacks accuracy and any hint of touch, leading O'Brien to say: "We've got to do what's best for the team."
"Is it an ideal situation as it relates to this league? No," O'Brien said of the constant quarterback shuffling. "I understand that, but we're moving on to Jacksonville."
