Ken Rogers, a supervising producer of HBO's "Hard Knocks" series, reported Sunday that free-agent wide receiver Braylon Edwards worked out for the Miami Dolphins, according to Ross Tucker of SiriusXM Radio.

Lombardi: Dolphins in danger?

The Dolphins will receive plenty of attention from "Hard Knocks." Michael Lombardi thinks this could be a bad thing. **More ...**

The Dolphins are considered to be thin at receiver after trading Brandon Marshall to the Chicago Bears for two third-round draft picks. The current top four receivers on the Dolphins' depth chart are Chad Johnson, Legedu Naanee, Brian Hartline and Davone Bess.

Armando Salguero, who provides blanket coverage of the Dolphins for the Miami Herald, characterized Edwards as a "SERIOUS option" to be signed in Miami.

Edwards, 29, has caught 341 passes for 5,323 yards and 39 touchdowns in his 99-game career with the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers. Knee surgery limited Edwards to just nine games in 2011, and the 49ers released him late in the season.

Edwards worked out for the Seattle Seahawks last week, but he wasn't signed. The Seahawks opted to sign Antonio Bryant, a receiver who missed the last two seasons with a chronic knee injury.

UPDATE:Dolphins coach Joe Philbin confirmed during a Sunday media session that Edwards worked out for the team last Tuesday. According to NFL.com and NFL Network's Jeff Darlington, there is no indication that Edwards will be signed.
