Braylon Edwards reportedly pursued by New York Jets

Days after Braylon Edwards unleashed a Twitter storm on the New York Jets, a report suggests the free-agent wide receiver's former team almost become his current one all over again.

CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora reported Sunday that Rex Ryan and the Jets tried to trade for Edwards soon after losing Santonio Holmes for the season, according to league sources.

The Seattle Seahawks still were hopeful at the time that Edwards would pan out and told the Jets it would take "something significant" to make a trade happen, according to La Canfora. The deal never went down, but the Seahawks might regret that since they waived Edwards on Tuesday, one day after he said some not-so-nice things about the Jets.

"Don't blame (Jets quarterback Mark) Sanchez," Edwards tweeted Monday night. "I played there. Blame the idiots calling shots ... Mark is a beast and will (prove) it when given a proper chance."

Edwards apologized for his words, but the Jets aren't likely to come calling again in this lifetime.
