Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn said this week he has been cleared to play Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals after missing two games with a concussion.
His coach, Romeo Crennel, told reporters a different tale Wednesday morning.

Quinn hasn't been cleared by doctors, according to Crennel, who announced Matt Cassel will make his third consecutive start after being benched in favor of Quinn last month. Quinn made his first start since 2009 in a Week 6 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, only to suffer a head injury in Week 8 against the Oakland Raiders.
"(Quinn is) feeling a lot better, doing a lot better," Crennel said. "If he makes it through the week without incident, then he can be cleared for the weekend."
Crennel has backed off promises that Quinn would keep his starting job upon his return. Crennel told reporters if Quinn makes it back this week, he'll compete with Ricky Stanzi for the backup role.
Either way, the Bengals are licking their chops. None of the quarterbacks in Kansas City have shown any ability to rescue this team from the 1-8 forest they've wandered into.
