Boston College's Andre Williams closing in on 2,000-yard season

Boston College senior tailback Andre Williams, the nation's leading rusher, ran for 339 yards and two TDs Saturday, the best rushing performance of the season in the FBS ranks.

Williams scored BC's first and last touchdowns in a 38-21 win over North Carolina State. It was his fourth 200-yard game of the season and his second in a row. Williams has rushed for 972 yards and seven TDs in the past four games, and now has a school-record 1,810 yards on the season.

Week 12: Top RB performances

Boston College's Andre Williams racked up 339 yards Saturday, but it wasn't enough to earn the top spot on our list of the top 10 RB performances of the weekend. **More ...**

With two regular-season games remaining -- BC also seems a lock for a bowl bid -- Williams (6-foot, 227 pounds) has a great shot at becoming the first 2,000-yard rusher for a FBS team since Connecticut's Donald Brown had 2,083 yards in 2008.

Williams carried 42 times, tying a career record set when he was a true freshman in 2010. Saturday was his third consecutive game with at least 30 carries and his fifth this season.

Williams rushed for 1,562 yards in his first three seasons with the Eagles. This season, he has gone from a fringe NFL prospect to perhaps the best senior back in the nation. Williams has had 13 100-yard games in his career, which has been marred by injuries the past two seasons. He has played a full season only once, in 2010.
