Bills rookie Easley to undergo surgery on leg, out indefinitely

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver Marcus Easley is expected to undergo surgery on his injured left leg and will be out indefinitely, coach Chan Gailey said after practice Wednesday night.

Easley, a fourth-round draft pick out of Connecticut, hasn't practiced since he awkwardly fell on his knee during a training-camp session Aug. 2. He was on the sideline Wednesday as the team prepared for its first preseason game against the Washington Redskins on Friday.

Gailey, who would only describe Easley's ailment as a leg injury, didn't say when the rookie would have the surgery. Gailey said it was unknown when Easley would return to the field following surgery.

The Bills will be down another receiver, James Hardy, whom Gailey said will miss between one week to 10 days with an undisclosed injury. Hardy didn't practice Wednesday, one day after he was seen being treated by a trainer near the end of practice.

Entering his third NFL season, the former second-round draft pick has looked solid during training camp in competing for the No. 2 spot alongside starter Lee Evans.

"That's tough on him," Gailey said of Hardy. "I feel bad for him. I feel bad for us, too. We wanted to get a good look at him. He's done some good things."

Looking ahead to Friday's game, Gailey ruled out three-fifths of his projected starting offensive line. Right tackle Cornell Green was ruled out after he hurt his right knee in practice Saturday.

Left tackle Demetrius Bell and right guard Eric Wood will be held out as both are being eased back into practice after missing most of the offseason while recovering from leg injuries from last season.

Gailey also ruled out linebacker Paul Posluszny, who only began practicing this week after having groin surgery last month.
